About the Author
Gary Inrig is a graduate of the University of British Columbia and Dallas Theological Seminary. Dr. Inrig is pastor of Trinity Evangelical Free Church in Redlands, California, and has written several books, including "True North", "Whole Marriages in a Broken World", "Forgiveness", and "Pure Desire".

Max Anders (Th.M. Dallas Theological Seminary, D.Min Western Seminary) is the author of over 20 books and the creator and general editor of the32 volume "Holman Bible Commentary". Dr. Anders has taught on the college and seminary level, is one of the original team members with Walk Thru the Bible Ministries, and has pastored for over 20 years. GOOD STUDY OF THESE MOST INTERESTING BOOKS

This is a very good study of 1-2 Kings. The volumes in this series are briefer than
many, but in this one there is plenty of information without the work being too
detailed. Also the author of this book isn't unwilling to deal with disputed issues
like Elijah & the ravens. I especially like the sections called DEEPER DISCOVERIES
where additional info can be had.

Some works in the Holman series are way TOO brief for the books they cover
(Genesis/Psalms etc), but this one is a very good buy. I don't agree with EVERY
single conclusion, but this one is good for anyone wanting a brief basic study of
the Kings.

Great Resource

These commentaries are great for Bible study. History, explanations, applications, and much more help the reader understand the scripture that is being studied in a deeper sense and context. I would reccommend any of these commentaries to anyone!

About the Author
Ken Evans has held a variety of machining and related jobs throughout his career; and is currently a CNC Programmer at a prominent aerospace company. Ken was a Machine Tool Technology instructor for 20 years at Davis Applied Technology College in Kaysville, Utah, where he taught a variety of courses throughout the machining curriculum, including Mastercam CAD/CAM. In addition, he has trained other educators from around the region on how to set-up, program, and operate their CNC machines; and has been a Training & Applications Specialist for a local machine tool distributor.

About the Author

Thought provoking

Two years after his wife dies from an unexplained illness, Jones O'Brian realizes something evil is happening in his town. Helped by his friends and an army of angels, he works to fight its advance and save the town and people. Don C. Gladden tells the story in Jones' Corner.

Having rooted his life in faith, Jones is able to trust in God for help when trouble hits. That doesn't mean everything goes as expected, but he knows that God is sovereign and will prevail. This, and seeing prayers answered, deepens his trust.

Gladden has written a book that does more than provide a good story. He brings to the forefront an issue that we often try to avoid: spiritual warfare. Though there are people causing trouble, they are not the source of the conflict. Jones and his friends are facing spiritual adversaries, just as we do. Even tough this is a fictional story, it reminds us that we, too, battle against powers and principalities.

I liked the story, though I think it could be made longer. This isn't really anything against the book or plot, I just think that it would be nice to go a bit deeper in the concept of spiritual warfare. That, and don't like it when books I enjoy end.

Worthy of a screenplay-

Since paranormal/action adventure genre is not my forte, this book was a slow rouser for me. There were so many characters that initially seemed to topple over one another. Just when I was being introduced to the main cast, out jumped more players from here and there. But as I kept reading, nearly each one developed and so did I

The storyline's plot is held captive by eerie evil antagonists whose ploy was to manifest fear and panic using destructive pranks while also stirring up strife within a small community. A county's sheriff and some law officers, with the guidance of heavenly angels, team up as the avengers who are determined to physically and spiritually stop the demons who eventually succumb to their victorious opponents. But not without a fierce and destroying fight.

Author Don Gladden's personal media background comes into play with his clever move-by-move action scenes as he rolls the camera up close to the "misty faces" of the demons for the reader audience. Some good imagery there!
I was impressed with his detailed descriptive of various weapons and defence strategies used which challenged my knowledge base. The author has an acute command of language. Character dialogue was some of the best ... tight, articulate and refined, although the author had opportunities to heighten emotions in certain scenes, such as when central character Jones' wife is dying. I would have liked to have felt the grief a little deeper instead of reading a few more chapters dousing me back into much detail that I could hardly keep up with. Several other places in the story could have been intensified to increase personal attachment to the host of characters.

I admit that it wasn’t until the last part of the book where I was nearly in tears because of the faith element. The final action scenes were gripping as prayer, the supreme ammunition for life's battle, brought the warmth and vision. As a Christian who understands spiritual warfare, Gladden illustrates a divine bond that extends through the revelation of life and death-- victory and defeat. Results were transparent to the loving Creator and Savior. It is a touching, intimate picture.

In summary, with all the sharp detail, there was an extreme amount of action that would render a more favorable screenplay in my opinion. I thank and congratulate a fellow author for his scholarly a51pproach and creative accomplishment! I'm very glad I read it

Great Book!

I enjoyed reading this book! The plot and characters held my attention and I couldn't wait to read more and see how the story would unfold. I love that the author tackled the subject of spiritual warfare - showing us how what happens in the unseen spiritual dimension can and does impact what happens in our earthly dimension. I believe "Jones' Corner" would make a great movie and I cannot wait to read the sequel!

I liked it, but I have some issues with it.

First issues is that this book is a cliffhanger. I'm going to go ahead and buy the next one because unless I hate a book, I always buy the next one if the story continues. It's a thing. But, I'm not jazzed the author stretches this one out into two books. That point aside I did like these characters. She's clearly setting up one character to be the boy worth waiting for, but I liked both male characters right up until the last few pages. One of them does a 180 in personality. Throughout he's a wee bit selfish, but not a total jerk and the last few pages have him turn into a colossal jerk.That didn't read as true to me.

The book has some errors that make it clear it was not edited carefully. There are changes in tense that make no sense and frequent errors in subject verb agreement which lead me to suspect that it was originally in third person and then changed to first. It was distracting, but I got past it. Self published should not be self edited through. If you can't afford an editor then send the book to ten friends and have them mark changes and send it back. Between all of them you should catch all your typos, tense errors etc.

Last complaint is the emphasis on purity. None of us is pure. All have sinned, all have fallen short. It's great that you've kept your promise to God, but I'd rather read and emphasis on how that sacrifice is about focusing on your walk with God, not on just 'remaining pure'. It's wrong-headed and so damaging to the new Christians that find Jesus after they've lost their virginity. Also, why didn't she ask her new love interest about his faith before she started to date him seriously? That should be a first discussion. Why date someone who doesn't love God? There's nothing but heartache at the end of that.

All in all, I did like the book, i'm just frustrated by some of the themes and the lack of editing. Love the cover.

Great story!

This was a fantastic debut! This isn't even a genre I would typically read (I tend to stick more to YA contemporary or paranormal/fantasy) but that didn't stop me from thoroughly enjoying this story. The writing is clean and descriptive and the flow of the plot is spot-on.
Can't wait for the next installment in The Worthy Series!

Overall nice story

I enjoyed the plot and characters but it almost dragged in a few spots.
I personally had an issue with a few aspects such as the constant references to drinking alcohol. If neither Jessie's or Stephen's parents world allow it in their homes (as stated by Stephen) it seemed liked it sure consumed their lives.
I had some issues with Jessie jumping into another relationship that fast after a 10 year relationship. But why was it 10 years? That question was never answered and bothered me throughout the book. Why did it take long to get to a wedding? Also bothered me is that I did not see Jessie having a daily relationship with Christ where she included him in all she did. That made it not really believable that she was in a relationship that long and remained pure. Although I was glad that was the stand she took but didn't seem realistic.
Spoiler alert: I was glad when Stephen was finally honest with her about his feelings but then what happened??! They rode together so they never talk from that point on that day? How does she respond? It skips to the next day. That did not work for me and greatly frustrated me. They are in their late twenties why did it take so long for him to tell her how he feels. These aspects seemed like inconsistencies. Just some of the things I did not like which is why I gave the book the 3 star rating.
On a personal issue I don't enjoy books as much that are written in past tense. Also for me the picture on the cover really didn't fit with plot. It looks to be a much younger girl than a grown woman with her own business.

About the Author
IRVING STONE was born in San Francisco on July 14, 1903. He wrote several books in a genre that he coined the “biographical novel,” which recounted the lives of well-known historical figures. In these novels, Stone interspersed biography with fictional narrative on the psychology and private lives of his subjects. He also wrote biographies of Clarence Darrow and Earl Warren, and short biographies of men who lost presidential elections. He died on August 26, 1989.

Let the reader beware - this is more novel than letters

I, like the many reviewers of this book, was enthralled and inspired by this collection of letters when I first read it 25 years ago. I have recommended it to many friends. At the time I would have given it five stars or even more if they were available. Irving Stone writes in his preface "My aim has been to edit the 1670 pages of material down to a swiftly flowing, continuous normal-sized book..." He succeeded but even 25 years ago I was a little disturbed by the complete absence of indications where exactly Mr. Stone had done his cutting, or his editing. Today, in the age of internet we can now do some easy checking. The unabridged letters are on the net and reveal that basically what this Dear Theo is, is another novel written by Irving Stone. There is almost no resemblance to the original letters. The novelist has used his talents and the raw material to create a beautiful saga. Worth reading, but let the reader beware.

Essential reading for lovers of art...

"Dear Theo" should be mandatory reading for all students of fine art today, as no modern artist injected a level of passion into their work equal to that of Van Gogh in 1880 through 1890. This volume is a sort of highlight reel of Vincent's comments on his life and art to his beloved brother Theo. I recommend "The Complete Van Gogh" published by Taschen to accompany "Dear Theo", as there are no visual examples of Vincent's art aside from the cover included in this book. No one who appreciates fine art will be sorry to invest in either publication.

Poor quality of paper and printing!

The paper quality of this book is very poor, and affected the prints in half of the book- making the prints blurred and hard to read! So much so that I thought I was having problems with my eye, and asked others with good eyesight to check the book! They also confirmed that it was the paper and prints!!
