ANTOINE DE SAINT-EXUPÉRY (1900-1944) was born in Lyons, France. He took his first flight at the age of eleven, and became a pilot at twenty-six. He was a pioneer of international commercial aviation and flew in the Spanish Civil War and World War II. His writings include The Little Prince; Wind, Sand and Stars; and Southern Mail. In 1944, while serving with his French air squadron, he disappeared during a reconnaissance flight over the Mediterranean.

I loved this book. I believe the translation is very close to the original story in French. By the way, this book not only has the story of Le Petite Prince but also Night Flight in Chinese. I wish Amazon would disclose that information in the product details section.

The first few chapters of the book discuss the necessary background material in the area of device design and device modeling, respectively. High-performance CMOS circuits are then covered, especially the new all-N-logic dynamic circuits. Propagation delay times of high-speed bipolar CML and ECL are developed analytically to give a thorough understanding of various interacting process, device and circuit parameters. High-current phenomena of bipolar devices are also addressed as these devices typically operate at maximum currents for limited device area. Different, new, high-performance BiCMOS circuits are presented and compared to their conventional counterparts. These new circuits find direct applications in the areas of high-speed adders, frequency dividers, sense amplifiers, level-shifters, input/output clock buffers and PLLs. The book concludes with a few system application examples of digital high-performance VLSI circuits.

Delicious Film Theory

As most films, like most novels, have some sort of narration flowing through them, David Bordwell's "Narration in Fiction Film" is a very useful and important book in the world of film theory. Laying out the different styles of narration into a few distinct categories and using a few films as examples by analyzing them in great depth (including Rear Window and Pickpocket), Bordwell takes a very deliberate and methodical approach to the delineation and understanding of films. The language he uses, such as the terms "syuzhet" and "fabula" to refer to different aspects of the plot, are difficult to comprehend at first but once learned provide a welcome ticket into the captivating world of film.

teaches new ways of thinking about cinema

I used this book for a cinema/media theory seminar as a freshman at Princeton University. It is demanding and just plain difficult at times (I personally found chapter 2 super confusing). However, it achieves its goal: it provides one valuable way to discuss movies - by focusing on the narrative and its workings (another way that comes to mind is Lacanian psychoanalysis employed by Slavoj Zizek). Along the way Bordwell gives us some very useful vocabulary: syuzhet , fabula, diegesis (the narrative space), self-consciousness and communicativeness, internal and external norms, etc. Have you ever asked yourself what difference it makes whether the music you hear in a particular scene of a movie is diegetic (e.g. comes from a radio situated in the narrative space) or non-diegetic (i.e. is super-imposed)? Or how the narrative makes use of your expectations and hypothesis-building? If so, you will probably enjoy this book.

The book also develops a valuable discussion of different "modes" of narration. Everyone knows the "classical" Hollywood narration (protagonist-driven plot, a problem that needs resolution, etc.). Bordwell uses the classical mode as the starting point to discuss the other ones. For example, Art Cinema narration depends precisely on violating the norms of classical narration. Moreover, Bordwell makes it easier to understand different modes by including long interpretations of various movies (Bertolucci's "The Spider's Stratagem", Bresson's "Pickpocket", Hitchcock's "The Rear Window", Godard's "Pierrot le fou" and many others).

It would be very hard to absorb all of this book. Personally, I forgot most of the nuances and arguments discussed and precise terms used to frame them. However, the take-away is a whole new way of thinking and talking about film.

very dense, very insightful, when i'm not sure how to make a scene flow i crack open this book at random. seven years in i still glean new ideas from Bordwell's analysis of old films.

The book lacks wiring diagrams and comprehensive details on electrical matters. I have used many Chilton books since the 1970's. This book is too general in that Chilton tried to cover all models of most imported makes built in four years. I wasted my money on this one; it'll go to our community library. I have reviewed and will order the Chrysler manual for $82.00 as it will provide full information.

It REALLY IS Sweet!

I was not aware that this was a lesbian romance when I started reading the book so this was a first for me in this genre. I jumped in with an open mind; determined to enjoy the book in the spirit of its intended audience. I was glad I did. The dialogue in How Sweet It Is is genuinely funny and sweet, the characters are well-written. There are grammatical errors, which distracted me from the story at times. I can’t help it – it’s just a peeve for me that I can’t overlook. I’m hoping the final publication will be cleaned up.

Molly O’Brien is a sweetheart. Everyone in the town of Applewood, Illinois, thinks so. After losing the love of her life four years prior in a plane crash, Molly thinks she’s ready to start dating once again. When Jordan Tuscana, younger sister of her lost love, returns to town, Molly finds herself interested in a way she isn’t prepared for.

It’s beautifully written. I couldn’t help but fall in love with the main characters Molly and Jordan. Both have to deal with the loss of Cassie in their own way. I really enjoyed how their relationship develops and how well written the realization and acceptance of the situation affects Molly and Jordan individually. The interaction between the two main characters was fun and engaging. I actually laughed out loud at some of their dialogue. I love a book that actually brings forth emotions. If I can laugh and cry while reading a book, it’s a win for me. I think both Molly and Jordan learn to be comfortable with the fact that they can build a relationship in spite of their shared loss.

I don’t think that this genre will become something I seek out, but I also won’t avoid it. It was a sweet story, and I enjoyed and recommend reading it.

A GENUINE AND WITTY ROMANCE

This is based on the ebook version purchased from the publisher today. As you can tell I really enjoyed it since I bought and read this book all in one day. I think it was one of the better lesbian romances I've read all year. I genuinely enjoyed the banter between the two leads. I felt the connection between them as friends and was rooting for them the whole way. Brayden did a good job of portraying the inner feelings and emotions of both leads; I felt emotionally connected to both characters. I'm embarrassed to say I teared up when Jordan truly felt that giving up what she wanted would be better for everyone else in her life. But, the book itself was not emotionally heavy. The author did a good job of balancing the heavier emotions with a lighthearted feel we get from the two leads interacting with each other and with the secondary characters.

This storyline could very easily have turned dark and melodramatic and thankfully the author understands how NOT to do that. Even during emotionally uncertain moments Brayden knows how to pull it back and make it real. I especially liked the part where Jordan breaks the tension by making a joke about Jane Austen and being at high tea. Very clever.

I think what I appreciated most about the book was how real the characters felt. Molly's need to please everyone and not wrecking the status quo; Jordan trying to let go of adolescent insecurities and attempting to move into adulthood as gracefully as possible; her parents inability to see her as an adult for most of the book but coming through for their kid when it counts most; the way the town pulls together to help one of it's own: they're all quirky and wonderful in their own way and I was a little sad to have come to the end of the book.

How sweet indeed!

This book will definitely cause the need for an insulin shot after reading it! Brayden's story takes you through a wide range of emotions, where you're dancing a happy dance one moment, wiping tears the next, and before you can get back to dancing, you're yelling at characters. But don't worry, you'll be smiling and dancing again before it ends.

The relationship between Molly and Jordan is taboo. While Brayden doesn't let you forget that, she writes about these two in a way that really makes you not care that the relationship should be "forbidden". Its easy to root for them getting together, and you'll feel their pain in them being separated. Anyone with "interesting" family dynamics can easily relate to this story.

Warning: This book will make you crave all sorts of delicious treats. Cinnamon Buns, Blueberry Muffins, and Molly Dollys...
